I cross this bridge frequently, preferring it over the George Washington bridge further south. Nothing against George, just the traffic and congestion in the area leading to the GW bridge, and the bridge itself. The Tappan Zee is being replaced and the on-going construction progress is evident in each passing.
When traveling to my normal NY RC haunts, this bridge drops me in an ideal position west of the Hudson River for traveling to those locations. When traveling further south, such as Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, etc, Rte 95 would be the most expedient. But I prefer traveling through the Shenandoah Valley along Rte 81, and will take the additional hit in travel time.
Google maps typically states it’s an extra hour in travel time, spread over a two day drive, that’s only 30 minutes per day. The scenery is so much more pleasant than Rte 95, and the drive much less stressful, the extra time is insignificant in comparison.
